Children's Group
The ARK Foundation run a Children's Group which meets every Saturday from 8-30 am to 4-00pm. In the group the children are taught life and behavioural skills; how to be active in society or classes, and to be able to express their points of view or ideas in positive ways. Moral and social issues are discussed in an open way, and children are taught the value of an education, how to respect the elderly and about potential pitfalls that may come their way later in life.
- Every Saturday they are given a free breakfast and lunch
- Generally about 10-15 children come each week
- Each meetings costs abt MK 6,000 (about GBP 25)
- So far the group has been running about 17 months
- Some of the children are orphans and look forward to these meetings as they see the people at the ARK as sort of guardians to help them through life.
Plans for the future
In the future we would like to help them more with their education. Primary school education in Malawi is free, however there aren't always sufficient materials in school and not all of the children have enough money to buy their exercise books, pencils and pens.
So, if you would like to help with our children's group you could do one of a few things:
- Make a donation to assist children to buy exercise books, pencils and pens
- Organise a collection of these items in your country or area and send them directly to the ARK Foundation. This could be a fun and empowering activity for children in the Western World.
- Sponsor our children's group...for a day, a month, or even longer if you like.
- We would like to get local schools in the UK onboard to help us with this project. If you are a teacher and would like to involve your school then please let us know. If you are a pupil or student and would like to get involved then please ask your teacher and/or parents to contact us.
If you have any ideas for this project or any other with the ARK, or would like to sponsor a project and or assist our work in any way then please get in touch through the contact page.
