Working with the Community

Empowering the Younger Generation

In order to look to the future it is important to look to the youth of the nation and we do work mainly with children under the age of 16. At the moment approximately 60 pct of children under the age of 16 are smoking, drinking beer and taking drugs simply because they have nothing else to do and no future to look forward to. Twenty percent of the prison population in our town (Nkhata Bay) are people under the age of 20.

We work with children who are willing to go back to school and have the desire to improve or start their education. We also work with those who do not want to go back to school but want to further their education in a different way and we help them to learn technical skills like carpentry, tailoring, painting, welding and other skills so that they can have a chance of having a career.

We also hope that by helping to provide basic educational and career needs we will be able to provide live skills and teach the people that we work with the value of helping others within their own community

Looking After the Elderly

The ARK Foundation also helps out the elderly in the final years of their lives by making donations of simple life essentials like soap, blankets, food etc and specifically concentrates on those people who don’t or no longer have children or other relatives to look after them. Other ways that we intend to help them is by helping them with cleaning their homes, helping with simple hygiene issues and ensuring they have semi-regular medical check-ups. In a country like Malawi it is very difficult to have any sort of savings for old age and in many cases the elderly are fortunate to have a place to live in.
