Chicken Farming

At the end of 2010 we upgraded the size and quality of our chicken huts and modernised our "automatic" chicken feeding equipment. We now have capacity for about 400 chickens.

Generally, our chicken programme earns the ARK Malawi a good income on a regular basis and it also helps the people of the local community. The ARK sells chickens and eggs to the local people. We sell eggs at a better than market price MK 20 rather than MK 30 and we can sell chickens more cheaply too. Very often the people we sell to are cafe or restaurant owners so in effect we are passing on our own good fortune, so that they can make more of a profit from their own business.

Future Plans

We are currently able to buy 300 chickens each time (roughly every 3 months) however we have capacity for 400 chickens so we are hoping to attract the money to do this as soon as possible.
