The Situation
Malawi is one of the poorest countries in Africa and it has the second highest disparity between rich and poor. The infant mortality rate is at least nine percent, inflation is excess 80 percent and unemployment is very high. There are also environmental problems with deforestation, soil erosion and overfishing which are all very important when over 80 pct of the population lives in rural areas and depends either directly, or indirectly, on fishing or farming for their survival. Needless to say, the Malawian Government does not have a structure in place to help all or even many of its people.
Our aims are help the ARK in Malawi to self-reliance and empowerment so that they will be able to improve the quality of living for many people in their town. The ARK have chosen to work with mainly the very young, and the very old. We are a small organisation run by a committed bunch of volunteers who would welcome your support.
