Hello, Jambo and Welcome...

... to the website for the ARK Foundation of Malawi

We are a community based organisation founded in 2008 by Christopher Chapema in Malawi and Doug Buckingham in the UK. The goal of our organisation is to help the people of Nkhata Bay to a better quality of life, and specifically to help the very young, so that they can get a better (or some) education, and the elderly so that they can have some basic comforts in their final years.

The main focus of the ARK Foundation is help people to positions of empowerment and self-reliance wherever possible and with that in mind we aim to become a self-supporting organisation. We have managed to both start and grow our organisation with the help of some generous donations, however we are slowly become self-sufficient with the income from projects that our group of volunteers is working with in Nkhata Bay at the moment.

We finished the hard work of building our new office at the start of this year. This is really good for us in the medium to long term because it means we save on rent costs but in the short term it made it difficult for us to fund new or even existing projects. However that all seems to be changing and we are now moving ahead again.

We are in the process of becoming an official charity in the UK and this website will carry updates on that journey. The site is constantly being updated with all our news, info, successes and inspirations, however if you have a question for us then please don't hestiate to contact us
